Interprofessional cooperation in the treatment of orthodontic patients with periodontal disease
Abstract
Atrophic or inflammatory periodontal disease is a relatively common phenomenon in our population, which is also encountered in orthodontic patients. The aim of this lecture will be to present clinical cases of orthodontic patients with compromised periodontium. We will discuss what we factor during a treatment plan design. We will focus on the oral hygiene protocol, outlining from an orthodontic perspective the importance of anchorage, types of appropriate appliances and their limitations. Last but not least, we will present the options for prosthodontic and periodontal restorations and securing the retention phase.
