3D-Printed Partial and Complete Removable Dentures: A Fully Digital Workflow
Abstract
The speaker will provide an in-depth overview of the complete clinical and laboratory workflow involved in the fabrication of partial and complete removable dentures using 3D printing technology, covering the following topics:
- Scanning techniques for edentulous jaws and dentures
- Analysis of color scan data of the denture-soft tissue transitions area
- Intraoral scanning vs. functional impression techniques
- Digital reconstruction of maxillomandibular relationship
o Fabrication of printed record base and registration of jaw relations using the central-bearing pin method
o Use of a digital facebow for transferring the maxillary position to the virtual articulator
o Virtual articulator settings: advantages and limitations
o Integration of functional jaw movements using the ModJaw system
- Use of digital tooth libraries in prosthetic planning / tooth selection
- Denture base design and virtual tooth arrangement
- Prototype printing / analysis / functional try-in of the denture and its significance
- 3D printing methods (SLA, DLP) and the importance of post-processing
- Prefabricated vs. 3D-printed teeth in digitally designed denture bases
- Color customization of printed teeth / palatal cut-back techniques
- Comparison of resins for denture bases and artificial teeth
- Aesthetic and morphological individualization of the gingival and mucosal components
- Comparison of standard vs. premium complete dentures / time requirements for fabricating removable prostheses
- Durability of conventional versus 3D-printed dentures
